What is Microblading

Microblading is a cosmetic procedure that’s intended for people who have thin eyebrows. The tattooing procedure involves the use of a microblading tool when applying colour pigments to the skin within the eyebrow area. Unlike traditional tattoos, microblading offers a semi-permanent fill that can last up to three years.

It can offer a more defined and natural-looking eyebrow. However, the colour effect fades over time, which means you’ll need touch-ups if you want to maintain your designed look.

Are You A Good Candidate For Microblading?

Microblading is ideal for people of all skin types. You can be a good candidate for microblading regardless of your skin tone and shade. People who lost their eyebrows due to alopecia can also undergo this procedure.

How Long Does It Last?

How long the effects of microblading will last depends on your skin type. Generally speaking, it can last between one and three years. However, if you have oily skin, you can expect the pigment to fade faster so you’ll need to get a touch-up sooner.

How Much Does Microblading Cost?

You should know upfront that microblading is an expensive procedure. The cost usually depends on your location and where you plan to get it done.

What Happens When You Undergo A Microblading Treatment?

Before the actual procedure takes place, your microblading specialist will draw in your brows first so you’ll know what it’ll look like. Once you approve the shape, you’ll lie down in a bed and your microblading specialist will start creating small superficial cuts in the brow area. The semi-permanent pigment will be deposited into the newly created hairline cuts.

Don’t worry because the procedure isn’t painful. The sensation is similar to threading your eyebrows. But since people have different pain thresholds, what may be painful to some may only be uncomfortable to others.

What Do You Need To Do After Microblading?

Once your eyebrows are done, avoid getting them wet or sweaty for a week after you’ve had the procedure. If you’re someone who works out and you can’t avoid sweating on your brow area, you can apply an ointment on your brows to keep the cut clean and protect the pigment.

You may use an antibacterial ointment for the first 24 hours following your microblading appointment. Then, you can switch to a Vaseline-like ointment for one week. Don’t pick the scabs that may form in the tiny cuts made on your brows and avoid using any retinoids or acids as the cuts heal to prevent the pigment from fading.

What Do You Need To Be Aware Of?

All cosmetic procedures, whether it’s a permanent tattoo or microblading, involves certain risks. It’s therefore, recommended to do your research first before deciding to undergo microblading.

Find A Good Salon

Before anything else, you need to find a salon that is known for providing safe and quality microblading services. The person who’ll do the procedure must be a licensed, experienced, skilled, and well-trained esthetician.

You need to take precautionary measures if you’re considering undergoing this procedure. Be sure to check the esthetician’s credentials, first.

Allergic Reactions and Infections Are Possible

Allergic reactions are rare but they may happen. You should ask your esthetician about the types of pigments they use. Don’t forget to ask what processes they follow to check for allergies. This way, you’ll know whether or not you’re at risk of developing an allergic reaction.

As for infection, it is also possible since you’ll be breaking the skin. There’s a possibility of transmitting infectious diseases. You have to make sure that the salon you’ve chosen uses sterile tools and equipment. You should also check the place where the procedure will take place. It must be clean to avoid any infectious complications.

Incorrect Application

As previously mentioned, microblading uses semi-permanent pigment. Therefore, any incorrect application will be difficult to cover up. Not only that, you have to pay the additional costs to correct the procedure. That’s why it’s crucial to vet the esthetician and the clinic or salon where you are thinking of getting the microblading procedure performed.
